At the beginning of COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020, pMD wanted to find a high-value feature that would both generate more users and improve their healthcare experience. One of the research paths led to COVID-19 vaccination record storage. At the time, the biggest features for patient users on pMD were secure chat and telehealth. I researched what people wanted from a vaccine storage feature and found that most people wanted an app that was simple to navigate and easy to pull up the vaccination record when standing in line for a restaurant. I created high-fidelity mockups that emphasized the vaccine record on the app's home screen to maximize ease-of-access.
Making it straightforward to import the record was a secondary request. Some states offered an electronic record with a QR code. To simplify the import process, my design used device location data to suggest importing from the state's electronic record if supported. This was both quicker and more secure than taking a picture of the physical vaccine card, which could be blurry or outdated.
